Norwich Medics: 87, Norwich III XV: 0

Norwich Medics achieved our first shut-out today, beating Norwich thirds 87 nil. Due to front-row issues for Norwich, the game featured uncontested scrums throughout, denying Norwich a platform to work with and Medics an opportunity to refine our scrummaging. The Medics lineout was strong, and there was excellent running from ball carriers and support runners throughout.

A pleasing performance from the Medics in front of a good number of supporters, including the President & one of the Vice-Presidents.

Norwich Medics v. Norwich III XV - 13.00 today

About this time last year, Norwich Medics played our first competitive XVs match against Norwich at their ground. We were thrashed, despite some promising performances. A year on there is excitement and expectation within the club of a strong performance and victory against them this afternoon at Little Melton, kicking off at 13.00. Coach Martin Falkingham has selected a strong side, and with all players considerably more experienced than last year a good performance should follow.

Lowestoft & Yarmouth 34, Norwich Medics 10

The result belies the excellent performance, particularly as this was the first match for many of our players since March. There were notable excellent individual displays, but overall the team spirit and commitment was impressive and a first victory of the season is not far away.

Welcome to season 2006/7

Norwich Medics RFC travel to Lowestoft and Yarmouth today for the opening Merit Table match of 2006/7. The nature of the University start date has not permitted any warm-up matches, but the team will hope to hit the ground running and notch up a decent win.

The club held a recruiting afternoon last Wednesday and were encouraged by 44 potential players signing up. Training on Thursday saw an excellent turn-out which was great. It is heartening to see such an interest in Medics Rugby at the UEA Faculty of Health and there is much excitement and optimism about the forthcoming season.

We will endevaour to keep this site updated on a weekly basis with pictures and match reports.
